And, real talk: My friends knew I was Skincare Coach Melanie before I did. 

In college, I’d create skin routines for my friends in the aisles of Kroger and Walgreens. I put together a curated skin care goodie box for my best friend’s birthday, had friends shove their credit cards in my hands with the directive to buy whatever I thought they needed in Sephora. I've taken a surprising amount of emergency calls about skin: Before a big date, before numerous weddings, after scary dermatology appointments. But I honestly thought all that was just for fun, a hobby that I just happened to spend a lot of my free time cultivating.

But then, I had a debilitating bout of acne in my late 20s. That's when my quirky interest in skin care became an all-consuming obsession: Exotic face oils, at-home skin steamers, scientific studies, anatomy books, snail mucin, 11 step skin care routines, DIY face masks, you name it, I researched/considered/tried it all.

Today, my acne has calmed down, but my dedication to research and obsessive skin care routine optimization has not. Like at all.
